Top 15 Travel Essentials: What’s In My Carry-On Bag

Top 15 Travel Essentials: What’s In My Carry-On Bag

You guys! This is a post I’ve been wanting to do for a long time. I’m such a nerd and I buy way too many things off Amazon, but I honestly feel like I’ve perfected my travel essentials! I’m a sucker for cute things, yes, but also quality things. I do a lot of research before I buy anything. Below are my top 15 travel items (in no particular order) that I’ve purchased from Amazon that I honestly use every single time I travel. As much as I’m on the move, trust me when I say these have made my life a whole lot easier – and enjoyable!  I personally own every single one of these items and use them religiously. So, feel free to ask me questions about any of them!

I’ve linked all of the items to Amazon directly, so you can easily shop by clicking the image.

1. Amazon Basics 6-ft Nylon Lightning Cable

Whether I’m in the airport, on the plane or in the hotel, having a six-foot iPhone cable has made my first-world problems non-existent! Plus, it’s super pretty & gold. I chose this one because it’s Apple MFI certified, so I know it won’t ruin my phone. This is my every day phone charger cord.

2. Universal Travel Adapter with USB Ports

This has been a life saver. A British husband means our electronics all use different plugs. I used to carry around three different converters: one for my iPhone, watch, and one to use on everything else! With this, no matter what country we are in, I can plug all of my USBs into this and even charge my laptop or curl my hair at the same time! I recommend this a MILLION times over.

3. Bose QuietComfort 35 Wireless Headphones (Noise Cancelling)

I’m really jealous because these are a lot cheaper than when I bought them (insert tears). Wireless headphones are a must for me! These connect to two devices at a time, so I listen to music on my phone and work on my laptop at the same time while never missing a notification from either. I can also drown out the talkative neighbor sitting next to me. I’m actually wearing them right now as I type to drown out my husband playing Playstation.

4. Blackout Sleeping Mask

You have no idea how much effort I put into searching for the perfect eye mask. I love this one though. It’s memory foam is so comfortable and you can’t see a peep of light through the nose at all! I actually sleep with it on every night.

5. TSA Approved Luggage Locks

I know this seems obvious, but you’d be surprised at how many people I see without luggage locks on! If your suitcase doesn’t come with one, I highly recommend investing in them. Why would you want to check your luggage and not have it secured? These are TSA approved.

6. PurSteam Travel Steam Iron

I have stayed at countless AirBnBs without irons. This little guy has become a must to bring along with me – just in case!

7. FashionBoutique Waterproof Nylon Shoe Bags

I know these seem silly, but TRUST ME. You’ll wish you had bags to put your shoes in when your white jeans have shoe prints on them when you open up your luggage (guilty). These ones are also super cute, so they make me happy! I use them every single time I travel.

8. Kitdine Soft Silicone Travel Bottles

I’ve tried out a lot of toiletry bottles in my time. The hard plastic ones are awful. They take up so much space and are bent and cracked after one use. Invest in a rubber set! You can use them forever and they fit nicely. They’re also super easy to squeeze out every bit of conditioner when you’ve been gone for six weeks and it’s all you have left. Haha.

9. Gillette Venus On-the-Go Razor

No, you don’t have to have a razor with a special case. But, I found myself hating having to put my razor in a plastic bag. I love this cute little razor that fits in my toiletry bag. I can take it in the shower with me and put it right back in it’s case for it to dry.

10. Vera Bradley Hanging Organizer

MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE TRAVEL THING I OWN. I have this in Navy and it’s such amazing quality compared to most travel cases. It looks super classy and it’s extremely durable. I can organize my entire life in this bag & hang it up in the bathroom when I get to the hotel. It’s all I have to carry to go take a shower, do my make-up, brush my teeth, wash my face, whatever! It’s all there. I keep my jewelry in the clear pouch, so I can see my selection.

11. Ginger Rescue & Sea-Band Motion Sickness Cures

This may not pertain to all or even most of you, but these two things have become a life saver for me! I get super motion sick when I ride in cars somewhere where there’s a lot of hills or turns. These tablets settle your tummy and the sea bands put pressure on your wrist pressure points. I use them both and they work like a dream. I can’t tell you which one works the best because I’ve always used them both at the same time. Lol.

12. Travelon Bag Bungee

You know what annoys me more than anything at the airport? Carrying a backpack when I should be able to set it on top of my rolly carry-on. I just found this puppy & my silly complaints have come to an end. You use this band to hold any bag on top of your luggage, so you can run through the airport without it falling off! It’s a dream! It attaches directly to your carry-on handle.

13. Apple Lightning to SD Card Reader

I’ve been using my DSLR camera lately to take photos. With this adapter, I can remove my SD card from my camera and plug it directly into my phone. That means I don’t have to wait until I get home to plug my camera into my laptop. I didn’t even know this existed until a few weeks ago and I’m so happy I found it! I can now edit on the go. Some of you may have super fancy wireless cameras, but I don’t. Haha.

14. S’well Bottle

I won’t preach to you, but you know how dehydrating traveling can be. I carry this bottle with me wherever I go. It’s small enough to fit in my backpack and it doesn’t leak. It also stays cold forever!

15. Calvin Klein Nylon Mini Backpack with Secret Pocket

I’ve literally been using this mini backpack for nine months straight now. I own it in black & gold but I bought it for my mom in navy & brown! I originally purchased it on one of my travels, but it’s so classy and useful that I don’t even use a purse or handbag anymore. I love this bag most for traveling because it has a pocket on the back, closest to you, so you can keep valuables (passport, money, etc.) in there and nobody can sneak in.

What’s in your carry-on bag? I’d loved to know what you always take with you when you travel!

I love the Venus razor, it’s always in my travel bag as well. Might have to invest in some of those shoe bags too, I usually try to separate them into a different pocket but that doesn’t’ always work

They’re honestly so handy! It would be so easy to just use a ziplock bag or a grocery bag, but I’m weird and I want my bag to look cute! LOL

I’m traveling to London for the first time and was wondering if the adapter is all you need for your hair dryer and straightener? Or do you also need a converter? Also, I’m literally buying all these things for my upcoming trip except the eye mask because I already have it and love it 🙂

    • August 28, 2018 / 6:37 pm

SO exciting! That’s a great question. I’ve always used my curling iron & hair straighteners with this adapter without a problem, but hair dryers usually are really sensitive with energy. In the UK, their standard voltage is 230V – 240V. Check your hair dryer/straightener to see if they have a 110-240V marking on them. If they do then all you need is the plug adapter. If if says 110 only, then I’d be iffy about it! I usually leave my hair dryer at home and hope that the hotel has a good one. LOL I can’t wait to see what you think of London!

I seriously did not know that you could keep a lock on your luggage! Definitely buying that for my next trip. That, and the shoe bag covers because I’m forever hiding my running sneakers away from my cute dresses!

    • September 18, 2018 / 10:58 pm

Yes! You can totally lock your bags. Those shoe bag covers are life! LOL I’ve gotten so many clothes dirty on a trip from my shoes.

Hi, Sabina! I’m so sorry it took me a while to get back to you! I’m so glad you found me and it makes me happy that you can feel the sunshine from all the way over there! I found two cute mini backpacks with a secret back pocket that are cheaper.

      This one is REALLY similar!

Here’s another option as well if you want more color:

I haven’t tried out either of these, but the reviews look great. I’d love to know your thoughts if you do end up getting one, so I can share! Thanks for following along! Angela xx
